A decoction is prepared by cooking herbs in water for at least 7-10 minutes to extract their therapeutic active ingredients. Once the herbs are cooked, the mixture is filtered and, according to taste, sweetened and enjoyed slowly, preferably away from meals. According to Ayurveda, the water should be boiled for at least 25 minutes to make it more hydrating and allow it to cleanse the body's channels, keeping tissues such as blood and organs healthy.
Healing begins from within! And it is fundamental that everything we introduce into our body is "clean" and rich in prāṇa.
The herbs are specially cultivated in the "Alnitak Garden" (in Golasecca) with total respect for the cycles of nature and animals.
Without pesticides or chemical fertilizers, we use Fervída fermented products, which we produce ourselves, for the care and healthy growth of the plants.
Bay leaf (Laurus nobilis)
is indicated to alleviate stomach problems, provide relief during seasonal flu, and stimulate the immune system. It relaxes and purifies the body. Specifically: Digestive and carminative properties, aids digestion, relieves colic and abdominal bloating, and helps expel intestinal gas. Aperitif properties, stimulates appetite and prepares the gastrointestinal system to receive food, facilitating digestion. Expectorant properties, helps to liquefy and eliminate bronchial phlegm, relieving coughs. Diaphoretic properties, stimulates sweating, promoting a decrease in body temperature in case of fever. Anti-inflammatory and astringent properties: in addition to drinking the decoction, being massaged or self-massaging with bay leaf medicated oil relieves the symptoms of rheumatism and arthritis, facilitating the healing of various types of injuries. Fig leaves (Ficus carica)
primarily help lower blood sugar levels and have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, thus soothing any skin lesions that often arise from diabetes. In addition to these valuable properties, they can be helpful in cases of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, bronchitis, dermatological problems, ulcers, toothaches and gingivitis (simply rinse with a decoction), and are a useful remedy for those who want to lose weight or simply stay in shape. Taken as an infusion or decoction, they also have a diuretic and slightly laxative effect. In case of cough, they help to soothe it. Figs can also help in cases of amenorrhea (absence of menstruation).
Hibiscus or Roselle (Hibiscus)
Used for millennia for the care of hair and scalp.
Hibiscus is traditionally used for colds, catarrh, circulatory disorders, lack of appetite, and as a mild laxative and diuretic. Along with other products, it constitutes one of the best decoctions for colds and respiratory congestion. Hibiscus flowers are also attributed with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, detoxifying, analgesic, and antibacterial properties, but the available studies on hibiscus mainly concern its effects on hypertension and hyperlipidemia. In particular, roselle appears to be effective in the treatment of mild to moderate hypertension as it seems able to reduce systolic (SBP) and diastolic (DBP) blood pressure.
Regarding its effect on the lipid profile, hibiscus consumption appears to be able to reduce the oxidation of LDL lipoproteins, as well as reduce LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels. The results of its effects on blood pressure and lipid profile are promising for the possible use of hibiscus in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases. The flowers have a diuretic effect and, in the form of medicated oil, are very useful as an anti-wrinkle treatment thanks to the high presence of antioxidants. They are often used in cooking for the preparation of sauces, jellies, jams, and wines.
Rosemary (Salvia rosmarinus ex Rosmarinus officinalis)
is excellent in herbal medicine as a digestive and eupeptic (bitter) agent, while the essential oil, being rich in eucalyptol, is used for its balsamic activity and also as a bacteriostatic, spasmolytic, choleretic, and cholagogue (promoting the synthesis and secretion of bile).
Many studies have also attributed a powerful antioxidant activity to the components of rosemary. It is used internally for the treatment of dyspeptic disorders, while external use is for treating rheumatism and superficial circulatory disorders.
More precisely, the beneficial activity exerted by the plant against digestive problems, rheumatism, and circulatory disorders is attributed to the essential oil contained in it. In fact, the latter has been shown to be able to exert a spasmolytic activity on the bile ducts and the small intestine.
Applied externally, rosemary essential oil is useful in counteracting rheumatism and minor superficial circulatory disorders, thanks to its analgesic and slightly counter-irritant action.
Furthermore, many of the chemical constituents of rosemary (essential oil, diterpenes, flavonoids) have been shown to possess interesting antioxidant activities; however, it should be noted that this antioxidant activity appears to be mainly carried out by the diterpenes contained.
In addition, rosemary is also attributed with antimicrobial, anticonvulsant, balsamic, hepatoprotective and antitumor properties.
The peel of oranges and lemons (Citrus sinensis – Citrus limon)
contains substances capable of alkalizing the body, reducing stomach acidity. Therefore, consumed as a smoothie or as an infusion, it rebalances the stomach pH, reduces acid formation and relieves heartburn.
Persimmon leaves (Diospyros kaki)
Digestive and antioxidant properties, counteracts hypertension and inflammation.
Useful in cases of type 2 diabetes, for heart and skin health, helps fight aging processes and free radical damage.
Raspberry leaves (Rubus idaeus)
have an important diuretic action and, thanks to the presence of tannins, help in case of diarrhea as they are astringent and are also used in case of irritations of the intestine and oral cavity in the form of rinses and gargles.
Peppermint (Mentha piperita)
folk medicine identifies it as the digestive remedy par excellence.
Its antispasmodic activity on the smooth muscle cells of the digestive and respiratory systems is important, alleviating gastrointestinal disorders associated with flatulence, abdominal pain and cramps. Peppermint has proven effective in people suffering from irritable bowel syndrome; It also boasts remarkable fluidifying properties for the respiratory system thanks to its decongestant and balsamic actions. It is also credited with antispasmodic properties for the airways, carminative, cholagogue, antibacterial, secretolytic, and even analgesic properties (for example, against headaches).
Rose petals (Rosa)
They impart a sweet flavor. Rose petals are known in Ayurvedic medicine as an excellent refreshing remedy. These precious flowers also help to purify the body, strengthen the immune and respiratory systems. It is no coincidence that an infusion prepared with a handful of rose petals can be helpful in case of flu and colds. The remedy is also a valid tonic. It is also an excellent antioxidant, treats secretions and tightens pores; it is an excellent liver protector. It relaxes and decontracts the muscles, helps with sleep, and is an aphrodisiac.
The detoxifying function of the decoction is an indispensable aid for the immune system.
